1. Check the size of the filter
Before replacing the filter, you need to confirm that the new filter has the same specifications and dimensions as the old one.
2. Check the seal
The filter is installed on the engine using a seal that must remain intact. Before installing a new filter, it is necessary to check and confirm that the seal ring is intact to avoid oil leakage due to a cracked seal.
3. Don't use strong tools
Although the filter can be easily removed with a filter wrench, if you use too much force, it may break the filter head or other damage, so be sure to use the filter wrench with a mastery of the force.
4. Do not reuse old cartridge gaskets
The cartridge gasket is a consumable item that needs to be replaced when the filter is replaced. Do not reuse old filter gaskets to avoid oil leaks.
5. Replacement cycle
It is generally recommended that a car's air and oil filters be replaced every 7,500 miles or so, and the fuel filter every 15,000 miles or so.
